The Simulations Library

Every simulation on the site in one place. Pick a subject, narrow it to a topic, then choose how you want to work with it — watch a concept, run a virtual lab, read an instrument, build a circuit or size a part.

Simulations by course

Starting points for the courses these simulations are used in most.

Engineering mechanics & strength of materials

Statics, trusses, beams, stress, buckling and the tensile test, the first year of an engineering degree.

Fluid mechanics & thermodynamics

Bernoulli, pipe flow, aerodynamics, power and refrigeration cycles, and heat transfer.

Workshop & vocational trade training

Reading instruments, machining, CNC, threads, fluid power and house wiring for technical and vocational courses.

How the library is organised

The homepage groups tools the way a course timetable does. The library sorts them the way you look for one. Each simulation carries a subject (Fluid Mechanics, Electrical & Electronics, Chemistry and nine more), one or more topics inside it, a format and a level.

Many simulations belong in more than one place. The four-stroke engine is an IC-engine mechanism and a thermodynamic cycle; the thermocouple is a heat topic and a measuring instrument; Pascal’s law is fluid statics and the basis of hydraulics. The library lists each one once in any result, and the card tells you where else it lives.

Formats

A concept animation shows a law or mechanism working. A virtual lab puts you in front of a real apparatus — a universal testing machine, a Morse test rig, a hydraulics bench. An instrument teaches you to read a caliper, micrometer or gauge. A builder lets you draw your own circuit, truss or ladder program. A calculator sizes or checks a part. Games and reference trainers cover the rest.

A PhET-style library, built for engineering

If you have used PhET Interactive Simulations from the University of Colorado Boulder, this library will feel familiar: free, in the browser, nothing to install and no sign-up. It goes further into engineering — virtual test rigs, measuring instruments, circuit builders and design calculators sit beside the physics and chemistry. MechSimulator is independent and is not affiliated with PhET.
